Groves Cemetery
The Groves Cemetery is located on the old farm of Jacob Groves off Vineyard Gap Road in Roane County, Geary District. It is located at the peak of a hill looking down on the old farmhouse where my grandmother grew up. Below the farmhouse in a hollow is the old Rock Bridge that trucks went over to go to the gas wells at the turn of the century. Included are pictures of the rock bridge to help located the Groves Cemetery. (picture 1 picture 2)
Jacob & Ann Francis Parker Groves brought their family to Roane Co. from Monroe Co. between 1850-1860 per census info. Jacob divided the family farm between his sons. James B. Groves owed the part of the family farm where the cemetery is located. According to my grandmother (g-grandaughter of Jacob) Jacob is not buried in the Groves Cemetery, but at an unidentified site on the old farm.
