I am Wyatt Lanier Ferguson of Martin, TN. My gg grandfather, Thomas Ferguson, came to Rutherford Co. TN in about 1812. He was born 1795 in Virginia – whereabouts unknown. He had a son named Wyatt. Wyatt had a son named Columbus. This morning I found a record of a Wyatt Ferguson in Randolph Co. WV, b. 1813. He had a son named Christopher Columbus. Coincidences are common, but they are worth checking on. Wyatt’s parents are shown as Robert and Deborah Wilmoth. His grandfather is James Ferguson. I would like to know if anyone has any connection to any of the names above. We think that Thomas’ father may have been Joel Ferguson. We have hit the proverbial brickwall, so any help will be appreciated.aweber1@neo.lrun.com November 24, 1997

Hello, My name is Ken Collett, I live in Melbourne, Florida, but am from the Elkins, Randolph County area, and that is truly where my heart is. I am into the genealogy hobby, and am looking for a member of my family. My oldest known ancestor is Thomas Collett b. 1760 d. December 1, 1842. He is buried in the Beverly Cemetery. His wife was Margaret, and I think her maiden name was Clifton. They moved to Elkins, WV from Pendleton County, and was actually married near Franklin before moving to Elkins. Their daughter Sarah married George Caplinger III, May 14, 1804 also in Pendleton County. I know nothing about them before moving to Elkins. I would like to find who the parents are of Thomas Collett, and where they came from. I have found some indication that they may have immigrated from France, but that is not confirmed. I would like to have some research done on these individuals, do you know who would be willing to help? I am a person of modest means, but would be glad to pay someone for doing the research for me. I have no way of spending the time in the records looking this information up myself. If you could pass this information on to someone who would be willing I would be grateful. Hi! My name is Angella Bloom, I’m researching my great grandmothers family. Her name was Eva Mae Louk, she was born May of 1897 in Elkins. Her father was Andrew j. Louk, born September 1836 in Randolph County. Her mother was Ella Sturm(Louk), born 1865 in Randolph County (Ibelieve). Her sister was Alice Gertrude Louk born July of 1899 in Elkins. I cannot seem to find anything on this family. I do know that Ella was very ill & sent her children to live elsewhere, I do not know about Alice, but Eva went to live with a woman who had an ill child & ran a (boarding house) for loggers. She was single, I believe. Andrew went to see Eva @ 1909, the woman wouldn’t let him, so Eva never saw him again. Ella died @ 1912. Ella’s parents were James Sturm born 1833 in Randolph County, & Susen (Ingerman) Sturm, born 1839. I have not been able to find anything on Andrew or any of these other people & when I read the stories about the area, I had to write you, I do hope you have some information on this family, or can find something out for me. I do have a little more info if that is needed. I was told about a Louk family feud in that area & was wondering if you knew about that? I would greatly appreciate any response. Thank you! Angella Bloom

My interest is in the history behind the Files massacre! It happened in 1753,, where Beverly is now located……I am a descendant of Robert Files and have been seeking as much information about the incident…But have received very little response!!! have been able to trace our history back to the family, when one of his children escaped and was able to warned his Uncle……..The son, John Files, 1738-1781, later fought in the Revolutionary War, dying at the hands of Tories and Indians in South Carolina……If anyone can assist me in gaining knowledge, I would greatly appreciate it!Jerry Merritt Saturday, June 28, 1997 06:00:40
